This position is responsible for carrying out the Food Safety and Quality Assurance departmental functions at the facility level. This position reacts to USDA, Food Safety, Regulatory, SSOP, HACCP, and Quality compliance and is a resource for all receiving, shipping, maintenance and production quality specifications.

By proactively developing, implementing, verifying, and validating the most practical and effective food safety programs possible, Advance Food Company will produce quality, wholesome products, and provide customer satisfaction in the most efficient and cost effective manner. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

Staffing/Human Resources
1. Provide on-the-job and classroom training for both hourly FSQA Technicians and production employees.

2. Work with hourly FSQA Technicians to further their skills in both written and verbal communication

3. Schedule the hours and control the overtime of FSQA Technicians at the Willow production facility

Food Safety and Quality
1. Support facility Food Safety/Regulatory Compliance programs such as Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Sanitation Standard Operation Procedures (SSOPís), and Sanitation Performance Standards (SPS) and all product Quality requirements established by both the company and by customers

2. Schedule, coordinate and/or perform Food Safety, regulatory audits and/or verifications and all quality verifications

3. Assist with maximizing facility efficiencies by proactively addressing situations that could lead to downtime or product loss

4. Assist in development and enhancement of all programs and procedures

5. Provide technical assistance and support to operations personnel as necessary

6. Provide verification services in the areas of receiving, storage of ingredients, packaging and raw materials, pest control, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPís), net weights, proper labeling, quality characteristics, and other general inspections, as needed.

7. Support production in all areas of quality and conformance to product specifications

8. Job responsibilities can require working variable hours, weekends, and some holidays

9. Maintain effective working relationships with all levels of company personnel, USDA, and customers.

Personal Safety
1. Perform all assigned daily duties following all required safety procedures (lock out/tag out, slip and fall safety, etc)

2. Train and supervise assigned hourly FS/QA Technicians in carrying out their daily duties following required safety procedures.

Supervise up to four hourly FS/QA Technicians in carrying out daily food safety and product quality duties/responsibilities. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Bachelorís degree (B.S.) from four-year accredited college or university, preferably Food Science related field; and/or a minimum of four years related food safety and leadership experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Bi-lingual (Spanish) skills beneficial.

Ability to manipulate data efficiently and effectively. Ability to demonstrate excellent research methods. Ability to draw conclusions from data, superior use of computer programs.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Responsible for technical understanding of job specific decisions.
