Manages, executes, and oversees food and pharmaceutical recalls for Walmart, Sam's Club, and Puerto Rico by investigating reports of affected products; documenting information and responses to inquiries pertaining to product removals; collaborating with internal and external stakeholders (for example, buyers, suppliers, logistics, Universal Product Code (UPC) and Accounting, Legal, Public Relations, Information Systems Division (ISD)) to execute product removals; providing advice and guidance on product removal programs and forms; managing federal and state regulatory agency recalls and withdrawals; compiling reports on product distribution and effectiveness checks; and ensuring correct expensing and payment of product removals penalty fees.

Manages food safety performance in distribution and transportation facilities by developing food safety controls and managing internal, regulatory and third party audits; developing policies, procedures, and guidelines related to food safety; identifying metrics and process improvements to ensure the product removal process; and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to meet strategy and compliance goals.

Reviews, evaluates, and addresses urgent food safety issues in the distribution centers and transportation system by reviewing food safety regulatory and internal food safety audits; identifying corrective action plan to correct food safety issues; conducting on site evaluations to verify compliance with regulatory and internal standards; and communicating to internal and external stakeholders.

Demonstrates up-to-date expertise in food safety recall and logistics food safety and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others in the application of information and best practices; supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer and business needs; and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.

Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identifying business needs; determining and carrying out necessary processes and practices; monitoring progress and results; recognizing and capitalizing on improvement opportunities; and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.

Models compliance with company policies and procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans; using the Open Door Policy; and demonstrating and assisting others with how to apply these in executing business processes and practices.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of a B.S. in Food Microbiology, Food Science, Agriculture or related field and/or experience in a Food Safety or Logistics related field. Experience and understanding of the food recall process and ability to determine risk in recall situations. He or she must have knowledge of federal and state regulatory agencies, research capabilities and be able to provide expert advice and guidance to both internal and external customers. This person should be a collaborator with the ability to interact with company buyers, suppliers and regulatory officials. This person must have effective communication and influence skills. He or she must be highly organized, analytical, and an excellent problem solver. Research, communication and decision making are daily responsibilities. Associate must be a self-starter, must be able to multi-task, and have a high sense of urgency and integrity.

A graduate degree in Food Microbiology, Food Science, Agriculture or related field is highly desired, but not required. Additionally, Logistics, Quality Control or Legal experience would beneficial.
