These endeavors have been around for centuries and will continue to be a vital part of the global economy. We currently have Science & Technology Manager position available in Caldwell, ID.

Overview:

Identify, evaluate and direct the development of enabling technologies needed to achieve the Food Group strategic plan and protect Food Group business segments. Define the specific knowledge, process conditions and equipment criteria needed to achieve the desired attributes in finished products. Conduct business targeted research to leverage information within the scientific body of knowledge, manage contract research agreements with universities, government research entities and private research companies as appropriate to efficiently develop needed intellectual property. Consolidate research findings into key principles that are readily applied to products and processes that are valuable to the business.

Responsibilities:

•Collaborate with Marketing, Sales and Operations to define the specific technical barriers that limit the optimal performance of current or desired product offerings. Provide focus on technical solutions that result in a competitive advantage or that are needed to regain a competitive position within the market.

•Evaluate technologies for the potential to be rapidly implemented by the Food Group to create value within identified business segments.

•Manage high risk/high return technology development projects. Assist the Director of Quality/Technical Services with the identification, evaluation and prioritization of transformative technology opportunities that often involve collaboration with external partners, companies, inventors and universities.

•Generate Intellectual Property for the company to provide technical insulation for the product portfolio or that can create an income stream through licensing.

•Direct project scientists (internal and external) to manage projects that develop technologies new to the company with a focus on feasibility of adaptation, implementation and generation of financial returns.

•Closely monitor regulatory, industry standards, technology and food safety developments that have the potential to disrupt the Food Group businesses. Implement changes and/or develop recommendations to the management board to mitigate these risks or capitalize on opportunities.

•Provide written documentation for project proposals, capital funding, patent applications, and to increase the technical competence within the organization.

Experience/Education:

•PhD degree and post-graduate research qualifications in Food Science or a related applied science.

•A working knowledge of food manufacturing, government food safety and labeling regulations; FDA, USDA, FSIS , International Regulations, FTC, and Customs Border Protection.

•A good understanding of sources of variability, probability, and statistics and effective applications in the food manufacturing environment.

•An understanding of business principles including intellectual property protection, marketing plans, cost structures, cash flow, ROIC and balance sheets.

•Extensive Project Management experience.

•Demonstrated ability in research methodologies and scientific report writing.

•Substantial experience with external research providers and funding sources.

•Extensive knowledge of potato and vegetable processing. A working knowledge of other food processing segments so that technologies can be adapted and applied within the core product segments and to an expanding portfolio of products.

•Knowledge of food spoilage organism, pathogens, beneficial organisms and their control in food systems; the chemical make-up of foods and the interactions of various chemical constituents.

•A working knowledge of lipid chemistry, carbohydrate chemistry, protein chemistry, minerals and water activity.

•Knowledge of unit operations, key variables for processing, critical material attributes, and scale up criteria for market feasibility.

Just 45 minutes away from Boise, Caldwell offers a small community atmosphere, but large city amenities. Caldwell boasts great community events and recreational activities for river rafters, skiers, hot springs lovers, trail riders and hikers.
