Job Description 

We are currently seeking an individual to join our multi-disciplinary team at our Newton, Iowa location.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, conducts investigations by assembling test setups, recording test data, conducting standardized tests, and assembling and disassembling products, materials and equipment. Develops working knowledge of the job, product variety, test methods, instrumentation, systems, materials, standards, etc.

Job Responsibility

Builds and/or adapts setup and test equipment for performance of tests. Performs standardized tests using general laboratory equipment. Performs routine care of and calibrates designated test equipment and work area. Operates computer terminal to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.


Reads and interprets results of tests and preparing accurate, complete and concise reports to reflect significant facts, including use of computer programs, spreadsheets, graphics and creating new spreadsheets, and using Minitab when needed. Maintaining accurate records of test procedures and conditions. Prepares charts, graphs, reports, etc., to accurately portray test results.


Operates appliances under specified test conditions and observes instruments such as data acquisition systems,  watt meter, voltmeter, gas flow meters, temperature recorders, recording watt meters, water flow meters, stop watches, tachometers, computers and scales; remaining alert for unexpected occurrences and recognizing both desired and undesired appliance functions and characteristics.


Recommends improvements to existing test and evaluation procedures and conducts trials to prove effectiveness.


Receives instructions from and reports data to section heads, group leaders and personnel in own department. Records observed or calculated data on appropriate data sheets.


Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.


Performs other duties as directed.



Job Requirements 

Required Skills

Higher Secondary Education (High School Diploma) plus generally one year of related experience.


Demonstrated ability to perform basic laboratory tests and record basic laboratory results.


Must be able to lift 20 pounds unassisted.


Must be able to bend and stoop for 75% of time.


Must be able to distinguish between shades of color and black and white, and count threads on fabric samples.


Attention to detail.


Strong math and computer skills. Prefer experience with Lotus Notes, MS Excel, and MS Word.


Strong oral and written communication skills.


This position requires use of hot water, heat, and detergents.


Work schedule may vary. Start and end times may change based on business need.
