Scope of Position:
As part of R&D, the Senior Food Scientist will lead developmental efforts
at the Fayetteville manufacturing site, leveraging meat science knowledge to
influence the manufacturing process to achieve productivity, quality, and new
product objectives.
This individual must be self motivated with strong
project management and communication skills with the ability to work across
sites in union with other Pinnacle plants leveraging the same
technologies. As part of the plant manager's staff, this individual is
responsible for representing R&D at the plant level, and the plant with
in R&D. This individualmust also be able
to manage multiple developmental projects simultaneously, ensuring that
milestones and deliverables are met.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
• Identify, develop and validate manufacturing processes leveraging meat
science knowledge to achieve productivity, quality, plant and new product
objectives.
• Develop and manage timelines for all projects
• Work closely with suppliers to identify potentialproductivity
opportunities
• Coordinate and perform line trials at company owned and contract
manufacturing locations as needed
• Work closely with equipment vendors to ensure process capability
• Work closely with manufacturing to ensure that key operational metrics
are obtained for productivity and new product startups
• Work closely with R&D cross sites to ensure that key product
requirements are identified and delivered leveraging scientific skills
• Generate new ideas for productivity, product improvements, and new
products
• Perform lab experiments, pilot and plant trials
• Initiate and monitor shelf life studies
• Develop process parameters ensuring plant capability
• Work with external testing labs as appropriate
• Ensure that key performance criteria are developed, specified and
achieved
• Develop product and process specifications for new and/or existing
products
• Prepare and input information into product specification system
• Prepare filings for USDA approvals
• Develop and maintain current and accurate specifications for all
products
• Actively participate in multiple cross functionaf
project teams
• Serve as the technical expert coordinating between R&D,
operations, marketing, finance and procurement
• Interact with all key business partners to ensure that brand
initiatives and needs are met
• Lead the productivity efforts across multiple brands and categories
• Lead/participate on productivity teams that contribute to overall
company cost saving objects
• Identify, develop, validate and commercialize cost optimized solutions
• Ensure that the cost optimized solutions meet or exceed product safety
requirements while maximizing cost savings
Supervisory
Responsibilities:
• One food technologist reports into this position also located at
the Fayetteville plant.
Education/Experience/Requirements:
• B.S.- Meat Science (or equivalent)
• 7+ years of relevant meat industry experience (new products,
formulation, process development)
• Up to 20% travel
Skills Proficiencies
• Proficiency in the use of MS Office software including Excel, Word,
and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of freezing technologies
• Knowledgeable in ingredient selection, formulation, processing
equipment, and operating conditions
• Extensive technical and theoreticalknowledge
of meat science and manufacturing processes
• Exceptional problem solving skills
• Ability to make good decisions based on factual data, past experience,
and common sense.
• Strong project management skills
• Understands and uses design of experiment techniques
• Ability to manage multiple projects and still meet critical project
milestones
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability
to interact with all company functions
