Quality Assurance and
Food Safety Director
The Director of Quality
Assurance and Food Safety provides leadership and direction for all Quality
and Food Safety programs.
- Ensures that quality and food
safety standards are designed and executed as an integral part of
Company’s core values of Initiative, Innovation and Integrity.
- Position reports to, Senior
Vice President, Sourcing, Logistics Licensing, Research and Development.
- Assure that all product packed by the Company and its independent
growers meet established product guidelines for quality.
- Manage the group of quality
assurance inspectors and managers, both internally and externally, who
work with company managers and growers to fulfill the Company’s
- Provide assistance to company
farmers and growers in the segregation of product and then transmit
the information about that product to the respective category
directors in the sales group.
- Serve as the interface
between sales and production to assure that product gets lotted and placed in the correct packaging and the
right quality grade.
- Review and revise as
necessary, the detailed quality standards and inspection protocols by
variety and commodity that will serve as our benchmark for quality
- Develop post
harvest research and development that would evaluate new
technologies, processes and packaging materials to enhance product
quality and shelf life.
- Confirm and assure the
quality of all facilities that work with the Company for gassing,
refrigeration quality and capacity, packing protocols and internal
operating controls and explain to growers the Company’s quality
- Develop protocols for table
grape and stone fruit storage programs. This might include a
pre-harvest component, a harvest segregation plan and a monitoring
program in cold storage.
- Evaluate the quality of our
cold storage temperature control, airflow movement and SO2 gassing
program to assure satisfactory levels.
- Review and maintain product
testing protocol for third party residue testing with company and
- Review and maintain a product
recall program in the event of a food safety issue and serve as
company point person for food safety issues.
- Implement, monitor and comply
with any certification programs in which the Company might choose to
- Implement and maintain all
food safety related programs.
- Ensure that operations comply
with federal, state, local, specific customer and company food safety
policies and regulations.
- Identify, document, and
report suggested corrective action for continuous compliance and
- Coordinate and lead all
third-party food safety audits.
- Educate and advise
management, and train employees on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP)
and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Hazard Analysis Critical
Control Points (HACCP).
- Bachelors in Food Science,
Agriculture or a related field, Masters preferred
- 5+ years
experience in quality and food safety.
- Experience with GAP, GMP, and
HACCP, and knowledge and experience of FDA/USDA requirement issues.
- Excellent written and oral
communication skills with management and employees at all levels,
customer representatives, and third-party auditors.
- Ability to effectively
advice, educate and train management and employees to ensure overall
food safety compliance.
- Prefer Bilingual
- Strong organizational,
administrative problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage priorities,
multiple projects, daily workflow, and meet deadlines.
- Proficient with MS Office and

including table grapes, citrus, red and yellow sweet peppers, seedless
watermelon, and stone fruit. They have over 15,000 acres of farming land,
and they manage the farming, packing and marketing operations for all of
its US grown products. They also operate one of the world’s leading fruit
development programs. While their farming and packing operations are
located in California, the company also obtains produce from partners in
Mexico, South America, Europe, and South Africa.
