Summary of Product and Consumer Science

The Kellogg Company has an exciting opportunity to join our Product and Consumer Science Team as a Product Consumer Scientist in our corporate Battle Creek, MI location. This position requires the ability to function independently and effectively as a project team member.

Responsibilities for Product and Consumer Science

  • Works as a partner with product development teams, providing cross-functional support to project teams by designing, executing, analyzing, and reporting results of all test types (descriptive analysis, shelf-life testing, discrimination testing, and consumer research). Recommends appropriate project next steps based on results.
  • Provides sensory and shelf life program support in order to maintain department functions:
    • Documents protocols and procedures
    • Writes and issues reports
    • Prioritizes requests
    • Maintains knowledge of relevant sensory and shelf life software
  • Partners with senior staff and/or guides development and implementation of new testing methodologies and/or opportunities for research on research
  • Applies knowledge of statistics as it applies to test design and data analysis.
  • Applies knowledge of food chemistry, packaging, and product development as it applies to sensory and shelf life testing.
  • Maintains knowledge of market research methodologies in order to provide insights to the product development process
  • Interacts with staff for cross-functional shared learning.
  • Recognizes substantial barriers, flags issues and/or makes recommendations for resolution to management or project team.


Product and Consumer Science

Requirements for Product and Consumer Science

  • Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field with 3 years of experience in food science, sensory/consumer research or related field
  • Master of Science in Sensory or related field with at least 1 year of industry experience in food science, sensory/consumer research or related field
  • PhD in Sensory or Food Science; no supervisory/managerial experience is required.
  • This job requires active support of sensory and shelf life testing, including serving tests, lifting product, long periods of standing. Extended work hours and/or travel may be necessary to complete the requirements of the job.
