we have an immediate position available for a Quality Assurance Manager at
our egg breaking facility located in New Hampton, Iowa.
Manage the Quality Assurance Department and in-house laboratory
implementing policies and procedures and lead the company’s continuous
improvement of the food safety and quality systems within Sparboe
Foods-New Hampton.
Overview Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that Sparboe Foods establish and
consistently meet exceptional food safety and quality standards.
- Manage
Quality Assurance Supervisor and QA Department functions and the
monitoring of Food Safety and Quality Systems. Manage QA team.
- Work with
Sales Department personnel in securing new accounts and meeting special
requirements or request of customer’s or potential customers.
- Manage and
lead development of the SQF System within Sparboe
Foods-New Hampton and work with the assigned SQF Practitioner on
Pre-Requisite Programs, Food Safety Plans, HACCP, and Food Quality Plans
relevant to Scope of Certification required by SQF Code.
- Manage Sparboe Foods-NH Food Safety and Quality Committee
and its functions.
- Work with
Safety Coordinator/Hiring/ Manager to insure that training program is
implemented as required and that all employees receive GMP, HACCP,
Allergen Awareness and SQF Food Safety and Quality Systems Review.
Facilitate employee training on food safety and quality procedures.
- Maintain PEPRLab status of Sparboe
Foods in-house laboratory by satisfying FSIS requirements for
Proficiency Sample Analysis and regulations governing PEPRLab.
- Maintain
the operations of the Laboratory including scheduling of lab technicians
for completion of required micro and analytical test requirements for
release of product.
- Manage
Internal Environmental Microbiological Monitoring Program
- Prepare
for and participate in audits and inspections from customers and third
parties (AIB/SQF/PEPRLab)
- Monitor
and trend customer complaints and out of compliant product and assist
with implementation of corrective action for audit deficiencies and
customer complaints as applicable.
- Work with
other members of management on any potential production problems.
Provide input, observations, and recommendations of solutions.
- Work with
other members of management in identifying inefficient and ineffective
processes and procedures, recommend and assist in the implementation of
improvements.
- Perform
Monthly Internal Inspections, Glass Brittle and Ceramic Inspections and
Quarterly Locker Inspections as per inspection schedule.
- Supervise
sampling procedures for environmental and product testing to analyze
product for bacteriological, chemical, or physical properties or for
customer audit requirements.
- Manage
plant systems and protocol to be in compliance to USDA Regulations
Governing the Inspections of Eggs and Egg Products.
- Manage and
monitor Supplier and Customer Complaint Policy, communicating and
follow-up corrective action as required or delegate responsibility for
corrective action
- Manage
Quality Assurance and Laboratory Budgets to insure resources available
- Manage and
develop, implement and enforce Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures
(SSOP’s), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP’s) and Good Manufacturing
Practices (GMP’s) and Food Safety Policies including inspecting the
plant, equipment and employees during production.
- Work on
special projects as needed including research and development.
- Manage
with QA Supervisor the SQF NH Food Safety and Quality Manual.
Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:
- Preferred
candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry,
Biology, Microbiology Food Technology, or related science with at least
12 semester hours of course work in microbiology.
- Minimum of
4 years work in food laboratory.
- Experience
and knowledgeable in food industry policies (FDA, USDA, AIB, SQF) with
emphasis on Quality Assurance and Food Safety Systems.
- Have
completed HACCP Training and be experienced and competent to implement
and maintain HACCP based Food Safety Plans.
- Preferred
candidate will have completed SQF 2000 Systems Core Requirements
Training Course and will have achieved “Certificate of Attainment”
issued by SQFI.

strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and customers
service skills.
- Computer
Skills. Including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Good
judgment. Focus on detail and accuracy a must. Ability to multi-task.
