Position Description: The University of Missouri (MU) invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Food Science. With a split appointment between teaching and research, this position is designed to provide leadership for our Marshall-Arbuckle Dairy Food Innovations Program. The program capitalizes on many existing strengths at MU in areas including food and hospitality systems, nutrition and exercise physiology, medicine, and animal science. Healthy food and life styles are a major initiative on campus.

As a member of our Food Science program, this person is expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish a strong externally funded research program, and provide professional services. The faculty member will oversee our dairy pilot plant and play an important role in fostering our relationships with the dairy industry. By an interdisciplinary approach, the faculty member will develop innovative food products for intervention of health issues such as obesity. Of particular interest are candidates with strengths in one or more of the following areas:

  • Food-based (dairy foods in particular) obesity interventions
  • Functional dairy foods and nutritional interventions
  • Dairy-based probiotics

Besides excellent laboratory space and a generous start-up package, recurring support will be available via our Marshall-Arbuckle Endowment for Dairy Food Innovations. Starting salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Food Science or closely related field, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and outstanding research potential. Postdoctoral experience is highly desirable.
