Associate Microbiologist

Position Location:

Argo Plant – Bedford Park, IL

Primary Function:

Use knowledge and experience in microbiology to perform established analytical methods and protocols for routine analyses. Provide timely analyses as part of the quality control laboratory.

Lead Microbiologist

Key Deliverables:

Critical Deliverables

Business:

·         Perform methods from the Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM), the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), the Argo Microbiology Lab Standard Operating Procedures, and other validated procedures independently.

·         Perform non-routine tasks, such as, bacteria identification, under supervision.

·         Collect microbiological samples of incoming supplies, in-process samples, and finished products.

·         Develop an understanding of the operating processes that affect product quality.

·         Interpret data and recognize trends in data.

·         Develop a working knowledge of product and customers’ specifications.

·         Approve product for shipment.

Agility and Innovation:

·         Assist in maintaining the validated state of the lab.

·         Assist in the maintenance of equipment, including routine maintenance and resolution of problems with instruments.

·         Follow all safety guidelines and quality systems established by the Company.

Relationships

and People:

·         Communicate technical data to technical and non-technical people, both orally and in writing,

·         Learn new skills and assist in the training of others.

Knowledge, Skills,

and Requirements:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Food Science or equivalent in education and experience.

·         Possess good working knowledge of laboratory practices and aseptic techniques.

·         Cover shifts as needed. Perform other work as assigned.

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey information to internal and external customers in a clear and concise manner.

·         Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments expeditiously with attention to detail.

·         Ability to interact with management at various levels of the plant organization.
