The Hartz Mountain Corporation is the leading consumer packaged goods company in pet supplies. We are currently seeking a driven and team oriented Scientist/Food Science Engineer to join our R&D Organization. The position is located in Bloomfield, NJ. 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Work with the product development team to manage nutrition/wellness products from concept to commercialization for companion animals, birds and small animals.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Formulate nutrition/wellness products for companion animals, birds, and small animals.
  • Develop new products and line extensions and manage product development activities from concept through commercialization.
  • Work with in house manufacturing and with co-packers to develop processes that will deliver on product design and concept.
  • Identifies and manages cost improvement projects to deliver cost savings objectives in a timely manner.
  • Develops and issues specification.
  • Participates in team and departmental activities such as meetings, committees and administrative obligations.
  • Maintains technical skills and personal improvement through appropriate training.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMAL EDUCATION LEVEL AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS or MS degree in food science or Food Engineering.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum three years of product development experience on cross functional project teams, managing product development from concept to commercialization.

 

SKILLS and ATTRIBUTES:

  • Strong formulation skills and understanding of food systems.
  • Strong knowledge of food processing.
  • Strong knowledge of ingredient functionality.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a project team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Highly motivated and goal oriented with ability to adapt quickly to change.
  • Requires a high degree of integrity, maturity, and honesty.
