Corporate Quality Assurance


Position Description:


• Work collaboratively with Manufacturing and the Produce Retail Business Unit (RBU), developing and implementing the food safety and quality assurance compliance programs for Fresh Foods Manufacturing
• Provide food safety support to the Produce RBU by improving and strengthening the Produce Good Agricultural Practices (gaps) programs with suppliers of fresh fruits and vegetables
• Work in collaboration with the Produce RBU by conducting risk-based food safety audits for high-risk fresh fruits and vegetable suppliers
• Work in collaboration with the Produce RBU serving as the subject matter expert on food safety and regulatory compliance for category reviews and line extension/reformulation approvals
• Continuously improve food safety programs associated with fresh fruits and vegetables
• Act as Publix’s advocate during Publix’s interaction with regulatory agencies involving matters with fresh fruits and vegetables
• Collect, review, and evaluate scientific data associated with the produce industry to make recommendations for food safety process improvements


Required Qualifications:


• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Safety, or Food Science Related course of study or equivalent experience
• Two (2) years of food safety experience in the produce industry
• SQF Certified Practitioner and HACCP Basic Training and Certified Professional Food Manager or willing to become certified within the first year of employment
• Knowledge of Federal and State Regulatory requirements specific to food safety and related areas (FDA Food Code, State Food Codes, Weights and Measures, Code of Federal Regulations) and the principles behind these requirements affecting retail, manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution
• Knowledge of a retail supermarket, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution processes and programs impacting food safety
• Knowledge of the interactions between Federal and State agencies (USDA, FDA, CDC, and state departments of agriculture)
• Knowledge of food manufacturing practices
• Knowledge of Publix’s policies and guidelines for the management of salaried and hourly associates
• Knowledge of food microbiology
• Willingness to work a variable work schedule including nights, holidays and weekends to meet the needs of our support customers
• Technically adapt to on the farm food safety programs and competent with up-to-date science of good agricultural practices

Preferred Qualifications:


• Master’s degree in Microbiology, Public Health or science related field
• Five (5) years of food safety experience in the produce industry
• HACCP Basic Training and Certified Professional Food Manager and National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) Certified Food Safety Profession (CFSP) or Registered Sanitarian (RS).

Hours of Work:

A minimum of 45 hours per week



$58,305 - $87,880/year, including bonus
