The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit consumer organization conducting innovative programs in nutrition and food safety. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, the nation's largest-circulation health newsletter. CSPI strives to provide useful, impartial information to the public, represent citizens' interests before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies, and ensure that advances in science are used for the public's good. CSPI is supported by its 850,000 US and Canadian subscribers to its Nutrition Action Healthletter and by foundation grants.
CSPI has an exciting opportunity for an energetic, strategic and creative scientist who is dedicated to helping achieve a safer food supply. Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the Toxicologist’s primary responsibilities include evaluating the safety of additives and contaminants in foods and beverages, and pressing for regulatory and legislative changes. This position will also write reports, letters, and petitions to improve food safety.

Job qualifications 

  • Candidates must have a Ph.D. and expertise in evaluating toxicological studies.
  • Experience in nonprofits, academe, or government with a focus on advocating for public health measures is essential.
