Sensory Scientist - Minneapolis, MN

Job Description: OVERVIEW: The Senior Scientist ensures that products translate into production with their designed attributes, as part of the Product Guidance and Insights department team committed to creating new products and businesses in the tradition of the superior-quality General Mills consumer goods.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Partner with consumer insights, research and development, marketing, packaging, manufacturing, and other business and product teams to develop new products, make product improvements, and contribute to concept refinement and product start-ups.

• Drive projects through appropriate consumer, descriptive, and discrimination testing to enhance product knowledge from its initial concept state to its appearance on grocers' shelves.

• Support sensory guidance research at both the research and development and plant level

• Serve as the sensory representative on business teams

• Recommends appropriate sensory methodology

• Applies design of experiments to sensory evaluation testing

• Interprets statistical analysis of results of sensory evaluation testing

• Communicates key findings and next steps in the product development phase

• Uses discrimination testing to determine if differences are perceivable in consumer packaged goods

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of M.S. degree in Sensory Science, Food Science, Psychology, Statistics, or related field.

• Minimum 2 years experience in sensory or consumer research working with project and/or business teams preferred.

• Experience in Flavor Chemistry, Psychophysics, Marketing Research, Product Development, Stability Science or Statistics.

• Experience planning and executing sensory and product guidance research in conjunction with broader R&D and marketing research functions is preferred.

• Proven ability to apply sensory evaluation methods and interpret statistical analysis results of sensory evaluation data.

• Fundamental understanding of applied statistical analysis, including design of experiments and multivariate analysis techniques.

• Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, and influence skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Proven ability to interpret and communicate sensory and product insight findings with business and project teams.

• Ability to manage resources and leverage existing data to effectively lead multiple projects.
