PORTLAND, Ore.
-- East coast
grocery chains Giant Food and Stop & Shop on Wednesday issued a voluntary
recall of some of their dried milk products
over concerns about possible salmonella contamination through its
manufacturer. The items were
produced with nonfat dried milk from Plainview Milk, which voluntarily
recalled its instant nonfat dried milk and whey protein as well as some
thickening agents earlier this week due to potential salmonella
contamination. The stores said
there have been no reported cases of illness tied to consumption of the
products. Salmonella can
cause serious infections, especially in children, the elderly and those with
weakened immune systems. Giant Food is
recalling its 9.6 ounce-size Giant Brand Nonfat Dried Milk. Stop & Shop
Supermarket Co. said it is recalling its 16- and 32-ounce size of Stop &
Shop brand nonfat dried milk. Both stores
said customers who have purchased the products should discard any unused
portions and bring their purchase receipt to a store for a refund. |
