Job Description:

Position Mission:
Implements and maintains the Supplier Certification process to ensure that Caribou Coffee Company suppliers provide safe and quality raw materials and finished goods.

Responsibilities Include:
• Ensure the safety of new and existing products through Supplier Audits.
• Act as liaison and point of contact to Suppliers regarding quality issues to seek appropriate resolution.
• Conduct plant audits for those suppliers seeking to become a supplier in alignment with Caribou’s Supplier Certification Program.
• Conduct supplier plant audits for those suppliers producing items categorized as High Risk annually to assure proper programs and compliance with current Food Safety programs are in place.
• Provide written follow up on issues generated prior to and following a plant audit to resolve.
• Ensure supplier has current specifications for products supplied to Caribou.
• Maintain up to date list of certified suppliers and assure all appropriate paperwork is on file in compliance with FSMA regulations.
• Maintain and revise Supplier Certification program as revisions occur with program or certification changes to suppliers under suspension or delisting of a supplier.
• Provide communications to R&D and Sourcing regarding status of suppliers when on-boarding or changes are made to their listing.
• Assist Sourcing, Brand Communications and R&D regarding labeling changes initiated by suppliers to assure compliance with labeling laws.
• Provide guidance to company owned stores, as necessary, in Food Code compliance and interpretation.
• Monitor pending regulation changes in USDA and FDA compliance; identify and communicate with suppliers to assure compliance.
• Partner with international team to understanding compliance requirements of products to be sold internationally.
• Support the introduction of new products by establishing product specifications that address incoming finished products, plant manufacturing and handling criteria
• Assure adequate flow of new products and ideas meet Caribou’s Food Safety planned objectives by providing food safety and quality expertise during pilot and initial production run.
• Provide regulatory expertise and guidance to R&D, Sourcing and Marketing as part of product introductions to assure compliance with current Food Labeling and Federal Regulations requirements.
• Provide time to industry, community or government to enhance Caribou’s image and presence in the industry.
• Follow standard work, work safely, and attend required personal safety training.
• Participate in training related to our products to enhance understanding of Caribou’s products and culture.
• Create a working relationship and climate to attain and maintain a high level of executive and employee morale.
• Establish by the first of each year a well-defined operational plan for the Supplier Auditor that meets the Corporate and Division strategic goals.
• Establish budget requirements for the Supplier Auditor function and present to the Director, Corporate QA as a part of the budgeting process.
• Provide QA support by attending and participating in appropriate business channel meetings and/or conference calls.

Education/Training/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field required.
• 5+ years experience in Food Industry required.
• Working knowledge of microbiological issues relating to the Food Industry, FDA and USDA facilities required.
• Ability to travel up to 60%.
• Previous experience as a Supplier auditing programs in SQF, AIB or similar a plus.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Expert understanding of emerging and current regulations applicable to Caribou products.
• Knowledge in Food Safety and/or Food Science.
• Ability to train and mentor others.
• Excellent communication skills, ability to simplify complex issues.
• Ability to leverage knowledge and expertise to represent Caribou.
• Ability to leverage sound Food Safety principals to problem-solve.
• Experience in or knowledge of all applicable food industry related quality systems.
• Strong attention to details, organized, and problem solving skills.
• Self motivated with ability to multi-task.
• Excellent Computer skills required; Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
