Kathmandu: Nepal''s former
Prime Minister and Maoist supremo Prachanda on Tuesday admitted to a
hospital in Kathmandu after being hit by food poisoning but his condition
was stable.
Prachanda fell ill after taking food at the Maoist party office. He
vomitted and was feeling weak after which he was rushed to the Janamaitri
Hospital in Balaju area of Kathmandu, party sources said.
His condition is stable but he will have to stay at the hospital tonight,
the sources said.
Following the illness of the 54-year-old leader, the ongoing Maoist
Central Committee meeting has been put off.
Prachanda was supposed to furnish answers to the questions raised during
the discussions at party headquarters in Peris Danda in the capital.
Prachanda, whose real name is Pushpa Kamal Dahal, led a decade-long
Maoist insurgency in Nepal which claimed the lives of more than 13,000
people. However, the Maoists returned to political mainstream after
signing a peace deal in 2006.
Prachanda took over as the first Prime Minister of a republic Nepal after
his party emerged as the single largest in the April 2008 Constituent
Assembly elections.
However, he quit from the post in May after a dispute with the President
over the sacking of the army chief.
