Job Description

SUMMARY††

The Manager of Food Safety & Sanitation is responsible for managing, directing and monitoring all Food Safety, Food Defense & Sanitation programs within the company.This includes but is not limited to the following areas:Plant Sanitation programs; Pest Control Programs; Plant Audits; Plant Sanitation Teams; Organic Pest Control practices; Assist Sales with customers who have pest control questions or issues; Conduct unannounced internal Food Safety & Sanitation audits; Manage and maintain the Corporate Sanitation Manual and insure each site is following the guidelines within this document; Provide a professional point of contact within Bay State Milling for all Regulatory, Third Party, Vendor or Customer Food Safety Auditors; Monitor Grain Quality.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.Other duties may be assigned.

Is responsible for a variety of support and service functions including:

 

       In cooperation with each Plant Manager, this position structures each plantís Food Safety & Sanitation programs so each site is ďInspection Ready Everyday

       Maintain the Corporate Sanitation Manual.This is to insure all practices and protocols are up to date and adhere to all current regulatory guidance as well as Corporate requirements and standards.

       Insure all Plant Sanitation personnel are trained to follow the practices and protocols set forth in the Corporate Sanitation Manual.

       Assist each Plant Manager in the implementation and assessment of local sanitation programs.

       Assist in training of local Plant Sanitarians and Food Safety and Sanitation Managers.

       In cooperation with BSM Transportation Department, design, implement and maintain all Bulk Shipping Vessel protocols for all Shipping and Receiving Vessels.

       Recommend offsite training by third party providers for Plant Sanitarians.

       Establish one to one relationships with our customerís Food Safety & Sanitation professionals.

       Work closely with Third Party Auditing firms in the design, implementation and maintenance of the inspection or audit model used by Bay State is appropriate and satisfies all of our customerís requirements as well as those of all of the applicable regulatory bodies which might impact Bay State Milling in the areas of Food Safety and Sanitation.

       Monitor and update the Allergen Management Plan for all Bay State Milling facilities.This includes, but is not limited to warehousing, ingredient staging, blending, packaging and transportation.

       Work closely with the Vice President of Milling Technology and Engineering to insure all new facilities and equipment installations are designed to facilitate cleaning and are easy to maintain in a sanitary condition.

       Monitor inbound grain shipments, ingredient shipments and packaging shipments to insure conformance with Corporate Standards and there are no issues with the purchases and receipts of these materials.

       Monitor and update the Corporate Food Defense Plan template to be used by each facility to incorporate into a Plant Food Defense Plan.In cooperation with each Plant Manager work to effectively implement each facility Plant Food Defense Plan.

       Along with the Director of Quality Services, provide a manpower resource for the Vice President-Corporate Quality Assurance in order to insure proper management staffing in each of the QA Laboratories.

       The Manager of Food Safety & Sanitation has the authority at the plant level to enforce all Corporate Sanitation and Food Safety Standards.If the Plant Manager is in disagreement with his decision, the Vice President-Corporate Quality Assurance will be consulted.If there is still a disagreement, a joint decision will be made by Corporate Quality Assurance, Corporate Manufacturing and Corporate Sales.If there is still not a consensus, the final decision will be made by the President.

       Along with the management responsibilities of this position, the Manager of Food Safety & Sanitation has a dotted line to each Plant Sanitation Manager.The direct report for each Plant Sanitation Manager is to their Plant Manager.The Manager of Food Safety & Sanitation will assist the Plant Manager in the assessment of his assigned Sanitation Staff.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE††

Proficiency in Word, Excel PowerPoint windows applications is required. Must have familiarity with most types of modern office equipment including copiers, computers, phones and fax machines. Knowledge of online services and the Internet a plus. To perform this job successfully, the individual must have at least a College Bachelorís degree or equivalent.Experience in the business will be taken into consideration on a case-by-case basis.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS††

English fluency is essential.Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to respond to either common and sensitive inquiries or complaints from internal and external customers. High attention to detail and a keen eye for esthetics.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.Ability to write in English and complete reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, top management, public groups, and/or Boards of Directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts.Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Must have seasoned judgment and business situation versatility, with ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
