CVAM – Retail

Cargill Value Added Meats Retail facilities utilize state-of-the-art beef, pork and turkey processing capabilities to deliver high-quality meat products to our partners. Advanced technologies and imaginative people create innovative solutions and distinctive value for our customers. Our retail customers come to us from traditional grocers, supermarkets and warehouse clubs to provide their meat and deli needs. We provide innovative solutions for their fresh meat case, frozen meat departments, deli counters, and more.

Cargill Value Added Meats - Retail has an opening for a Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Manager C as its Waco, Texas production complex.

This position will hire, train, and motivate the FSQR team to ensure continuous and consistent program implementation and continuous improvement. In addition, the FSQR Manager has managerial responsibility over the location's Sanitation Department. Three FSQR supervisors and two Maintenance Department supervisors report directly to this position, with approximately 14 Quality Assurance Technicians and 50 hourly Sanitation Department associates reporting indirectly.

In addition, this role is unique because the Waco facility is the only location within the Cargill Value Added Meats business unit that both harvests turkeys and produces fully cooked products. Therefore, the ideal candidate will have a broad range of experiences within the meat production industry.

This position will require approximately 25% travel. Also, work hours outside of a typical first shift schedule will be required at the facility.

A strong internal candidate has been identified for this position. However, we will consider all candidates who meet the minimum requirements for this position.

Principle Accountabilities

30% - Direct quality management system within the facility. Act as customer interface with plant to review product performance, respond to questions and complaints, work with operations to ensure customer expectations are met.

30% - Direct food safety management system within the facility. Plan, coordinate, and direct all sanitation, regulatory and food safety programs within the establishment to ensure compliance with company, governmental and customer requirements and expectations.

15% - Employee management selection, training development, performance management, staff efficiencies

15% - Monitor FSIS/export regulatory activities and plant compliance with regulatory standards. Act as liaison between USDA and plant operations.

10% - Reviews and verifies results and communicates with BU FSQR staff. Ensures management system consistency with other FSQR Managers within the business unit. Collaborates with FSQR Managers across the platform.



Minimum 7 years experience in Technical Services (i.e., Quality, Food Safety, Auditing, etc.)

Solid understanding of USDA/CFIA requirements (HACCP)

B.S. degree in Science or other applicable field and/or competency in technical skills gained through experience (usually acquiring 10 years of industrial experience)

Experience/knowledge in Microbiology, Food Safety (HACCP’s and GMP’s), Quality Assurance

Auditing skills and experience

Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office software (MS Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel)

Ability to rethink and improve business for continued growth

Ability to prioritize activities

Able to provide leadership and motivation to engage employees in the business

Superior written and verbal communication skills


Experience in building, creating, and managing Supply Quality Assurance programs

Quality Auditor Certification or ability to become certified

Advanced degree in science or other applicable fields
