Research Scientist – Lakeland, Florida

Job Description:

Coordinate and execute pilot plant tests and seasonal plant tests for citrus processing plants, including preparing and compiling test data, establishing data accuracy, critically evaluating test results, and preparing test data summaries and reports; critically review and update testing procedures and methodologies, including examining existing pilot plant testing accuracy, safety, and efficiency processes and making any necessary modifications; compile, organize, archive, and distribute pilot plant test yearbook reports each summer; work with the environmental/safety manager to ensure that the pilot plant is in compliance with current regulations; and manage development projects and exploratory tests when assigned; utilize knowledge of analytical citrus chemistry, including performing high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC) on citrus samples, to conduct research into citrus quality and processing technology improvements.

Requirements:

Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Food Science, Engineering, or a biological science field; and graduate-level citrus research thesis work, laboratory, and/or internship experience in citrus juices quality analysis, including demonstrated knowledge of analytical techniques such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC) analysis to improve the quality of citrus products.
