Sonic Corp is seeking a talented individual for the position of QA Food & Safety Specialist. The responsibilities will include: 

Coordinates the retail food safety audit program and evaluate supply chain for compliance to Sonic standards.  Manage the information flow and communication process for food safety and quality assurance, which includes all programs and systems.

Essential Duties and Requirements


  • Analyzes retail audit results.  Works with Purchasing, Operations Services and Training to problem solve and develop solutions to correct negative trends.  This would include preparation and handling procedures as well as product and equipment performance. 
  • Manages third-party vendor relationships.  Evaluates vendor performance, establishes vendor objectives, and involvement in annual vendor review.
  • Involvement with X-Team and Brand Development to understand LTO and new product tests and impact on food safety audits and nutritional program.
  • Evaluate supply chain for food safety, quality, and specification compliance.
  • Maintains and manages the database related to the drive-in food safety audit program and vendor complaint database (Seneca). 
  •  Coordinates the communication of audit results to the principals and other designated internal and external contacts.
  • Performs Food Safety Training for Franchisee’s,Store Managers and Assistant Managers, Field Team, and third-party audit firm.
  • Performs shadow audits with third-party auditors to ensure auditor calibration is consistent Verifies schedule of audits adheres to designated criteria.
  • Manages the communication of the food safety audit process to field services, principals, auditors and sonic management.
  • Coordinates the communication concerning audit failures to the designated internal and external contacts.  Works with Field Services and Legal Department to ensure failures are resolved.
  • Generates and oversees all food safety audit information reporting and trend identification.  This includes custom reports requested by franchisees.
  • Reconciles budgets and pays invoices for food safety audits and nutritional testing.

Coordinates the daily department activities.

  • Assists with coordination of audits for vendor manufacturing plants, distributors and products.



Education and/or Experience                                                  


Bachelor’s degree in biology, food science/nutrition, animal science, restaurant management, or related field preferred; and/or equivalent in education and experience.

  • Manage multiple tasks and projects, be detail-oriented, and work independently. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication and organizational skills. 
  • Must be able to deal effectively with all levels of management. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication, computer, and analytical skills.
  • Understands and is capable of using Power Point, Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, Outlook and ESHA Research nutritional software package.
