Summary:

Seeking a Food Technologist who can develop new products from prototype through plant production including packaging. This includes sourcing raw materials, testing small batches including process identification, weighing ingredients, sensory evaluation, shelf life testing, nutritional refinement, packaging fine-tuning, product specification and documentation. Candidate should possess good project management skills and be able to take ownership and work independently on projects. Should be a good team player and be able to work with cross-functional teams. Hands-on type engineering skills will be a plus for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of Food Processing during R&D developmental projects
  • Expertise in translating business objectives into strategic and tactical project goals and objectives.
  • Plan and run production tests at manufacturing plant to develop new products or reformulate products
  • Proven ability to make significant technical scientific advances utilizing internal and/or external resources.
  • Provide technical support to the plant, troubleshoot problems, and propose technical solutions. Analyze, evaluate and document data and standards
  • Represent R&D on cross-functional project teams and drive R&D priorities
  • Effectively work with cross functional teams like Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Finance, Engineering, Quality, Process Control, etc.
  • Ability to partner with a wide variety of external resources, including contract manufacturers, equipment vendors and ingredient suppliers
  • Maintain accurate project files, formulations, specifications and product/ project data.
  • Provide regular project status and progress reports to the management
  • Develop new products and line extensions using internal and external resources to deliver products within time, taste, functionality, regulatory expectations, nutritional parameters and cost while customer goals.
  • Enter value data into database, including all applicable information of raw ingredients, blends, and formulas that go into company products.
  • Critically evaluate food products to help determinate palatability, consumer appeal, and functionality.
  • Assist with in-plant implementation of new products and subsequent problem solving.
  • Evaluate alternative ingredient suppliers.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, sales, marketing, and maintenance in a team environment.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
  • Must evaluate opportunities to reduce ingredient cost while maintaining taste profile quality.
  • Establish periodic review process to ensure that existing formulations provide desired taste profile.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements :

  • BS/MS in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Food Engineering or closely related fields with emphasis on product formulation
  • 5+ years of experience in the food processing industry in a R&D/ laboratory environment.
  • Good knowledge of physical properties and chemical composition of food and ingredients
  • Fundamental understanding of applied statistical analysis and working knowledge of statistical analysis programs.
  • Experience in the area of nuts/snacks will be a plus. Hands-on type skill is preferred.
