Job Title: QA Specialist - Pre-Op Inspector

Summary: Position will provide leadership for the quality and food safety systems and programs. Assist production and sanitation personnel in the documentation, testing and inspection of products and processing systems at various stages to ensure compliance with company, customer or government quality standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following (other duties may be assigned)

  Assure compliance of specifications on incoming ingredients, in-process conditions and finished products.

  • Select products for tests at specified stages in production process and test products for variety of qualities such as brix, pH, color, viscosity, temperature, pouch integrity, metal detectors, etc.

  Conduct daily sanitation pre-operating inspections of processing and packaging lines including changeover verification on production lines and clean equipment/ATP swabbing

  Perform equipment teardown and allergen cleaning validations.

  Train new employees on quality testing, equipment and documentation.

  Conduct audits

  • Act as a resource to trouble shoot quality, food safety or processing issues and follow through to resolution.
  • Interpret formulas and SOPs and confer with Quality and Production Manager to determine quality and reliability standards. Write or create SOPs for Production and Sanitation as needed.
  • Support production on product test runs.
  • Monitor and enforce GMPs and quality procedures
  • Work as a partner with quality, production and sanitation management to optimize quality by reviewing existing processing procedures and making recommendations for improvements.






  • Experienced in a food manufacturing facility
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in GMPs, HACCP, Allergens and Food Safety
  • Familiar with SQF and related certifications
  • Physical ability to tear down equipment to perform swabbing for micro testing
  • Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills
  • Self motivated, flexible and able to prioritize and respond to changing needs of business
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment
  • Skill in performing detailed work in an accurate and organized manner



  • Successful candidate must submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check.
  • Successful candidate must submit to a criminal background check as outlined by Federal government Homeland Security guidelines.
  • Successful candidate must sign a Confidentially Agreement upon hire.



  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Medium physical effort.
  • Requires handling of medium weight objects up to 50 pounds with occasional lifting of elevator and dock doors with push/pull requirement of up to 125 pounds.
  • Standing, walking, stair climbing on a frequent basis.
  • Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating equipment or working with chemicals.



Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in food science; microbiology or related field. One to two years quality assurance or sanitation experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
