Position Summary:

A Leader of food safety within Kroger.  Serves on professional food safety committees and food retail trade organizations.  Participates in the development of new perishable merchandising programs.  Provides guidance for division merchandising and operations staffs.  Knowledgeable of food safety and its associated health risks, store sanitation, food safety training, knowledge of local and national food safety regulations, review pest control data, and the ability to evaluate and act on FSR audit data to drive improvements to current food safety and sanitation programs.

 

Essential Job Functions:

∑         Demonstrates excellence in developing and executing continuous improvement projects that will improve the overall food safety performance of their division, as measured by the Corporate Measuring Food Safety metrics.  The expectation is that each division will show annual improvement in their food safety metrics.

∑         Audits store processes, observes employee practices, and reviews compliance of food merchandising programs to ensure that food safety/sanitation policies, practices, and procedures are being followed.

∑         Monitors programs as it relates to food safety and sanitation in food preparation departments.

∑         Reviews pest control service reports and provides store operations with data and guidance to develop improvement action plans.

∑         Evaluates and recommends food safety measures for new merchandising plans, food production processes, new store designs, and new technologies that may be appropriate in enhancing the safe handling of perishable foods within the store.

∑         Is an active member of regional and national committees in the retail food industry and their trade organizations.

∑         Will be proactive in developing good working relationships with local and state governmental agencies.  This will include having partnerships on educating consumers, serving on local health department committees, and other activities that will demonstrate Krogerís commitment to food safety in the community.

∑         Ensures that food safety training programs from Basic Food Safety to the Certified Managers training programs are customized to division specific programs and are up to date.  Provide Train the Trainer training to division training departments. 

∑         Provides consumers access to food safety education materials on a regular basis.

∑         Develops communication programs to keep merchandising, operations, and stores employees current in food safety/sanitation policies, procedures, metrics, and training.

∑         Maintains a food safety web page on the divisionís web site, which includes corporate and division policies, best practices, food safety resources, contact lists, etc.          

∑         Keeps key division personnel informed of the latest scientific, technical, and practical developments in food safety and sanitation.       

∑         Must maintain a current Certified Food Safety Professional certification.

Minimum Position Qualifications: 

Level 8

∑                     Bachelor degree is preferred.  Three to five years experience in food safety.  Knowledge of retail food operations is desired.

∑                     Very proficient skills in presentations, oral, and written communications.

∑                     Have a current Certified Food Safety Professional (CFSP) certification (or obtain within six months of assuming position).

∑                     Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Level 9

∑                     All of the Above

∑                     Successfully complete more advanced Food Safety Education as Outlined in the attached Advanced Food Safety Course Outline (including HACCP, Epidemiology, Microbiology, etc.).

∑                     Demonstrated success in improving or maintaining food safety metrics.

 

Physical Requirements

∑                     Move objects of up to 25 lbs.
