Founded in 1919, Malt-O-Meal Company is privately held and headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Malt-O-Meal, the nation’s fourth largest cereal manufacturer, supplies a full line of branded cereals to all retail channels. The company currently produces 28 different ready-to-eat cereals, three varieties of hot wheat cereal, a line of Mom’s Best Naturals, and a full line of oatmeal products. The company operates production facilities in Minnesota and Utah. In addition, a new manufacturing facility located in North Carolina will be operational in 2008. Four distribution centers supply the customer base throughout the United States.

The purpose of this job is to establish strategic direction for, and the leadership of, Quality Assurance and Food Safety for Malt-O-Meal insuring compliance with all customer, regulatory and company requirements to provide consumers with safe, great tasting and wholesome product. This position will be responsible for making sure that quality assurance and food safety is incorporated in all corporate metrics, plans and policies. Contribute to the development and implementation of corporate plans and the leadership necessary for attainment of Company goals.

JOB ACTIVITIES/DUTIES • Provide leadership to all departments and individuals in product quality and food safety to create a World Class Quality and Food Safety culture. • Direct the activities of Quality Assurance and Food Safety personnel at all company locations. • Participate in the formulation, analysis and administration of company policies and long range strategic plans. Review analysis of activities and plans to determine company and department impact. • Provide strategic and tactical leadership on Malt-O-Meal business systems: Business Teams, Sales & Operation Planning, Long Range Planning, etc. • Deliver company and department objectives by utilizing the tools of Precision Leadership. • Direct or participate in the performance and analysis of special projects. • Develop and manage annual budget. • Establish systems measured by quantifiable metrics that ensure compliance with food and drug laws and internal and external specifications. • Determine and implement a balanced structure of internal and external technical resources that fits with company strategies. • Integration of new facilities, processes, products and packaging into Malt-O-Meal operations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS • BS in Engineering, Food Science or Food Microbiology • Masters Degree preferred • Advanced degree in business desirable • Knowledge of food science, engineering, business administration and manufacturing principles required • Familiarity with regulatory issues (e.g. EPA, FDA, OSHA, etc.) required • Minimum of 20 years experience in the food industry including quality assurance, food production, food safety, supervision of professional staff and business planning • Management Skills: Leadership, delegation, decision-making, problem solving, personnel development, communication; written and oral, negotiation, conflict resolution, budgeting and supervision
