Vietnam: 67 cholera patients recorded in July

VietNamNet Bridge – The Health Ministry on July 28 reported to the government that there were 441 acute diarrhea patients in 18 provinces and cities in July, including 67 cholera patients, but luckily no deaths.

 

On the same day, Nguyen Thanh Cong, Director of the Health Department of the northern province of Hai Duong, announced that an acute diarrhea epidemic had broken out in Tan Viet commune, Thanh Ha district, Hai Duong, with three people positive for the Vibrio cholerae bacterium.

 

These people ate food that contained Vibrio cholerae bacterium at a funeral in Tan Viet commune. Well water taken from the home of one patient is also positive for Vibrio cholerae.

 

Dr. Nguyen Huy Nga, Head of the Preventive Health and Environment Agency under the Health Ministry, said many of the acute diarrhea patients were also victims of food poisoning cases in Ha Nam, Nam Dinh and Hung Yen provinces.

 

In July, 26 food poisoning cases were recorded in 18 provinces and cities which sent 2,248 people to the hospital, with four deaths.
