Associate Scientist, Tropicana Innovation

The Associate Scientist / Scientist of Innovation will support the identification and development of new Functional Technologies for beverage applications.  This person will support the pipeline fill and long term vision for product innovation.  Individual will provide technical expertise and insight to deliver new ingredients and technology according to defined business objectives and deliverables.

Strong communication skills will be utilized to effectively partner with internal and external functions including Marketing, Consumer Insights, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance, Sensory, Analytical Services, and Ingredient Suppliers to manage Technology and Product Development from bench top through commercialization.


1) Support the Technology Innovation group and beverage product development efforts through concept development and technology research
2) Identify and/or develop novel ingredients and technologies and formulate new beverage products
3) Design and execute research to generate technical recommendations in support of business needs
4) Conduct productions at bench top, pilot plant, and plant levels for shelf life, stability, sales samples, scale-up, and other needs
5) Support projects and work effectively in a cross functional team environment to achieve clearly defined objectives and deliverables
6) Maintain updated lab notebooks
7) Complete documentation and reports
8) Assumes other responsibilities and performs special functions as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor
9) 10% to 25% travel

- B.S. or M.S. with 1-3 years experience is required.  Experience in consumer foods or beverage industry is preferred. Food Science degree is preferred.
- Understanding of Product Development techniques including formulation, stability testing, product/package interaction, sensory and consumer testing
- Basic technical understanding of ingredient functionality and process technology for application in new product development
- Sound understanding of Experimental Design
- Good problem solving skills
- Excellent teamwork, communication, and leadership skills
- Demonstrates strong personal initiative and ability to work both individually and in a team environment
- Able to analyze complex data to make clear technical recommendations
- Able to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines
- Experience in juice or beverage product development a plus
- Able to handle a fast paced and constantly changing work environment  
- Familiarity with functional nutrition food and beverage trends a plus
