Position Description
Manages food labeling compliance program for assigned area in stores or clubs scale labeled product by maintaining and executing the scale labeling program; ensure that all price look-up codes (PLUs) new and reformulated go through the label certification process; maintaining PLU assignment for assigned areas (for example, Bakery, Deli, Seafood, Meat, small formats) to ensure PLU accuracy and that there is no duplication of PLUs; maintaining a master data base of PLU’s and working with the Information Systems Division (ISD) to eliminate any PLU duplicates; ensuring PLU and online item file (OIF) is current and accurate in merchandising systems; escalating potential labeling issues for resolution (for example, product removals, rolling changes); working with merchants on packaging changes and ensuring tare weight accuracy in systems; and communicating and coordinating with the merchant group to ensure labeling compliance.

Manages food labeling initiatives and projects for assigned area in Sam’s Clubs and Walmart Stores by collaborating with merchandising to build project plans to complete labels for new and seasonal items’ working with third-party label review companies to analyze new and re-formulated products and gather food label requirements’ collaborating with cross-functional teams (for example, Merchandising, Replenishment, Private Brands, Legal, third-party label review companies) to manage food labeling process and resolve escalations (for example, discrepancy about statement of identity); and assisting management in the development of maintenance of policies, procedures and guidelines related to food labeling.

Participates in implementation activities for large changes and food safety compliance initiatives related to food labeling by responding to requests from stores or clubs to address regulatory agency inquiries; working with management to investigate new labeling requirements and setting plans to address changes; and using private brands systems (for example, packaging review software (ODIN), electronic label review system (ASPECT) to ensure food label compliance.

Completes work assignments and priorities in Food Labeling and Compliance by using policies, data, and resources’ collaborating with managers, co-workers, customers, and other business partners; identifying priorities, deadlines, and expectations; carrying out tasks; communicating progress and information; determining and recommending ways to address improvement opportunities; and adapting to and learning from change, difficulties, and feedback.

Minimum Qualification
The ideal candidate has a minimum of an Associate’s degree or two years of post-high school education in Business, Law, Science, Liberal Arts or related field OR 1 year experience in retail, licensing, regulatory or related field. Individual should have strong computer skills.

Additional Preferred Quailification
Bachelor’s degree in Food Microbiology, Food Science or related field
General knowledge of food safety and public health, FDA Food Code, and HACCP related principles.
Experience with Remedy, Access, Retail Link, Host, and OIF.
