An E. Coli outbreak in Auburn appears to be contained, according to a July 30 press release from Southeast District Health Department.

The Associated Press is reporting 11 cases confirmed in southeast Nebraska since July 22, including five at York and four in Auburn.

Kay Oestmann, health district director, said the investigation into the Nemaha County cases is ongoing. Details are not available because of patient privacy laws, but she the illnesses seem to be sporadic. “No further cases have been identified since the original cases were reported to the department,” she said.

Three of the four patients live together and the fourth patient may have been in contact with them.

York health officials are investigating food served at a community event to determine if may have sickened people.

Symptoms of E. Coli include cramps and diarrhea that may turn bloody. The infection normally incubates 48 hours to three days, but some people may be infected for a week or longer with no symptoms.
