Job Description

National Starch has an excellent opportunity for a Batters and Breading Scientist in its Global Customer Solutions & Product Innovation group located at our corporate headquarters in Bridgewater, NJ.

The Scientist will manage a portfolio of batters and breading projects involving experimental design, execution and commercialization for new product development, applied research, and customer product support for ingredients for the batters and breading area for National Starch Food Innovation (NSFI). This will include working with and/or leading interdisciplinary projects of global scope.

Principal responsibilities and activities:

Develop and manage batters and breading related projects and technology.

Lead/provide input to global product and technology development teams.

Advance the capabilities of the batters and breading area.

Design and conduct experiments in the laboratory and pilot plant to advance projects.

Communicate results and keep experiment records in a required format.

Support the development of new batters and breading capability in the organization including providing required education and training.

Stay abreast of batters and breading technology environment (market trends, IP landscape).

Requirements:

PhD in Food Science/ Engineering or a related field with 1 year of relevant work experience, MS with 4 or more years or BS with 8 or more years required.

Applications and/ or product development experience in the batters and breading industry (e.g. meats, potato products, or mixes) is required.

Demonstrated experience in hands-on product development with laboratory and/ or pilot plant equipment/processes related to batters and breading products and/or relevant ingredient development required.

Demonstrated ability and experience to effectively lead and interact with a cross-functional team.

Supervisory skills and experience desired.

Demonstrated track record of significant technical achievement including patents, publications, presentations, and product development/ launch experience.

Experience with experimental design, statistical data analysis, and interpretation of results desired.

Demonstrated project management skills and experience. Self motivated and results driven and demonstrated ability to deliver under agreed upon deadlines.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written technical communication skills (e.g. making presentations and writing technical reports).

Creative problem solver driven for invention/innovation.

Some travel required to run tests at external facilities, visit other NSFI facilities or to visit customers.
