Merchandising/Buying/Planning
Help drive sales by delivering exciting foods to our guests, when
they want them, where they shop. Play a role in developing foods that are
trend right and exceed guest expectations in quality and value.br>
Purpose
As a Food Product Development Scientist, you will be responsible
for managing vendor-based development of Target’s Owned Brands products,
Archer Farms and Market Pantry. Your responsibilities include creating
guest focus on trend items in prototype form, assisting with and
conducting organoleptic evaluations, product performance and quality
attribute assessments, scheduling and leading product team evaluations,
providing objective feedback to the teams, documenting product
evaluations, conclusions and next steps, and providing technical guidance
to vendors. Your work includes the entire product life cycle, from new
products to ongoing product improvements and maintenance.

Developing/Creating concepts
and recipes that replicate items identified in conjunction with
business strategy
Researching food trends and
industry information through publication, trend shows, restaurants,
and vendor partnerships
Evaluating products and
packaging submitted by vendors against national brands, product
benchmarks or Target prototypes or requirements
Conducting product sensory
evaluations and product performance evaluations
Ensuring products to be
commercialized are consistent with Target brand strategies
Participating in and/or
leads Private Label Team product evaluations, facilitate decision
making and identification of next steps
Working directly with
vendors to request product samples, inform them of specific Target
requirements, obtain technical information, provide technical
direction and guidance, and resolve issues
Documenting and summarizing
all product sensory and performance evaluations as well as Private
Label Development Team evaluations and decisions
Contributing to the
development, review and approval of the product specification
Conducting first production
run evaluations of all new products for compliance to specification
and overall approval
Assisting with product
improvements and the on-going maintenance of commercialized products

Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
B.S. in Food Science
Culinary degree or
equivalent experience
3 – 10 years test kitchen or
product development experience working with consumer packaged foods
and/or foodservice industry
Creative culinary skills and
a passion for working with food
