Idahoan Foods is hiring a Senior Food Scientist for our research facility in Lewisville, Idaho. The main responsibilities of this position include:

Job Description

Position Summary:

Position will focus primarily on developing new seasonings, sauces and flavor systems and their product applications and overseeing line extensions and product improvement in the retail and food service markets in accordance with the company’s business plan. Will serve as a technical expert in product formulation, labeling, regulatory and in meeting customer’s/consumer’s requirements and expectations. Will have managing responsibilities for a team of scientists and technicians.

Principle Accountabilities:

·         Lead a team of scientists/technicians in developing new seasonings, sauces, and flavor systems applications in new products from prototype to commercialization and in product improvement for the retail and food service business in accordance with overall business plan.

·         Identify new technologies, processes, ingredients to support the overall business plan.

·         Coordinate new projects and communicate progress with all involved internal and external teams and customers.

·         Work with QA in developing specifications for new products and testing procedures for specification compliance. Evaluate, monitor and update technical documentation, including specifications and formulas.

·         Assist QA in resolving customer complaints associated with the value added business.

·         Work with Purchasing to source new vendors and communicate with current vendors and suppliers to ensure specification compliance. Coordinate with vendors and internal teams as required.

·         Working knowledge of food labeling laws with the ability to ensure product compliance with FDA laws and regulations. Develop product labeling and ensure compliance with all federal regulations.

·         Excellent working knowledge of fundamental principles of food science and technology.

·         Knowledge of standard lab practices and procedures.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: Post graduate degree in food science, chemistry or microbiology with a minimum of seven years experience. Must have 3-5 years of experience in seasoning and flavor development in the food industry. Must have a strong understanding and working knowledge of color application, flavor chemistry, carbohydrate chemistry and lipid chemistry and their application in food. Experience in collecting and interpreting scientific data. Strong understanding of consumer sensory testing and its application to product development. Strong knowledge of FDA laws and regulations governing the food industry, HACCP, and GMPs.
