Job Summary:
This Cereal Science Laboratory Technician is responsible for the Cereal Science Laboratory and its organization, equipment maintenance/calibration, analytical execution/analysis, and laboratory procedures training. The position has a strong linkage through wheat flour quality to the factories of Nestle Prepared Food Company as part of the ongoing flour quality program and managing annual crop changes. In addition, the technician is expected to support bench top dough trials and pilot plant trials during peak periods of technician resource usage.
Essential Functions:
1.Organize laboratory layout and equipment placement for effective testing.
2.Coordinate area to perform analytical trials and prepare samples and setup analytical instruments for scientific testing.
3.Schedule analytical tests for efficient use of their technician time and laboratory time.
4.Plan for 1-2 weeks out of testing required and perform appropriate advance preparation for tests.
5.Thoroughly understand what appropriate tests are required and the area of importance of each cereal science analytical test and the parameters of the results.
6.Ability to quickly interpret results and provide clear and concise conclusions and/or recommendations and incorporate teaching and training when applicable.
7.Leverage and have a working knowledge of approved methods of AACCI and AOAC International.
8.Maintain a clean and sanitary work area. Maintain equipment in good sanitary and working condition.
9.Maintain compliance with ISO standards and Nestle Technical Instructions of calibration and validation programs on all methods and procedures used in the laboratory.
10.Strong understanding and ability to perform testing on the following instruments: Farinograph, pH meter, RVA, Texture Analyzer, TexVol, Mixograph, Mixolab, Extensograph, Alveograph, Falling Number, Viscometer.
11.Responsible for ordering, receiving, and storing analytical supplies, tools, and chemicals for analytical trials.
12.Responsible for executing trial and recording data during trial as outlined in a analytical test request. Must maintain accurate and appropriate records. Prepare summaries of trial results with interpretation and recommendations for processing/product improvements based on observations.
13.Computer skills are necessary to document information from trials in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and NesTMS.
14.Adhere to all facility policies concerning safety, security, Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices. (GLP and GMP). Know lockout/tag out safety procedures

Additional Responsibilities:
1.Working knowledge of equipment and operations on the bench top and in the pilot plant so as to be able to support peak periods of technician demands
2.Travel as required to facilitate training, industrial trials, and initiation of flour quality programs and knowledge transfer to factories.
3.Keep current with the latest advancements and investigate new methods and instruments that would benefit the Cereal Science and Dough Technology Dough Group.

Job Qualifications: (Education, Experience, and Knowledge)
'Minimum a Bachelor of Science degree with a minimum 3-5 years related experience.
'Good understanding of basic cereal science and dough technology and its common unit operations.
'Good knowledge of Pilot Plant and Bench top processing equipment.
'Position is physically demanding as outlined in the Physical Demands Task Analysis for the position.
'Position may require some degree of working in extreme temperatures and may require working varied work schedules.
