Job Description:         Quality Control / R&D Manager


Purpose of Position:

The purpose of this position is to support company growth by providing technical assistance for current lines of corn and wheat flour products. To manage the QC/R&D application of systems and to contribute to improving of manufacturing processes. Position requires plant experience; it requires a dynamic and professional individual to take lead in the quality control and R&D efforts. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this position requires a skilled individual to ensure the tortilla manufacturing continues to produce safe, wholesome and high quality products for La Canasta Foods.


Education / Experience:

  • Will have a degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Health, Chemistry, Microbiology or a related field
  • Must have 4-6 years experience in a quality control role with a food background, along with experience supervising QA technicians
  • Knowledge and experience in food safety, quality and regulatory requirements governing food handling
  • Good oral and written communication skills – Bilingual English/Spanish is a must
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with all levels at the Plant and Management team
  • Computer skills and analytical problems solving ability is required


  • Directing and coordinating the administration of policies, programs and procedures for all quality control functions
  • Manage outside laboratory testing
  • Plant auditing, (HACCP, AIB, GMP’S)
  • Pest control program
  • State regulatory compliances, (LAB TESTING, SANITATION PERMITS)
  • Must be able to recognize value-added opportunities for the Company
  • Responsible for product protection, finished goods quality, regulatory compliance, and consumer satisfaction
  • Visit customers to provide technical support
  • Follow up on customer’s complaints related to quality / formulation
  • Manage the plant sanitation efforts
  • Prepare documents to claim vendors credits related to quality
  • Coordinate materials inspection and approve usage
  • Qualify vendors
  • Prepare formulas and product specifications
  • Reformulate products as requested by La Canasta management team
  • Nutritional analysis / statements / labels / all data management
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
