Department: At General Mills Research & Development (R&D) is a key discipline of our Innovation, Technical & Quality (ITQ) organization. A Food Scientist at General Mills faces opportunities and assumes responsibilities unlike scientists at any other company or in any other industry. At General Mills, you will work in a hands-on environment and are actively involved in a broad spectrum of activities, including new product strategy, concept development, product formulation, process development, scale-up and plant start-ups.
Job Description: As a Food Scientisst you assume the roles of innovator, project leader, and technical problem-solver as you team with General Mills’ Marketing, Marketing Research, Manufacturing and Engineering professionals. Together, you are accountable for expanding new product businesses and making major product improvements.
You will face technical challenges head-on, and be the primary force in driving a project from the initial concept stage to the appearance on the grocer’s shelves. You will be asked to work on the development of prototypes, from testing and refinement to large-scale production of the retail product.
Our Food Scientists lead product and process development for new products and improvements for existing products.
Project examples may include:
•Product Formulation Development
•Production Process and Technology
•Development in Pilot Plant
•Plant Support for Production Scale Up
•Ongoing Productivity & Improvement Initiatives
In this role you will:
• Create new products or improve the quality of our existing products and systems.
• Collaborate with internal business partners in Manufacturing, Quality and Regulatory Operations, Marketing, Finance and Consumer Insight experts to help build and expand our businesses.
• Interact with external partners to identify new ideas and innovations.
Master’s or Doctoral degree in Food Science
