Location:
Research will be conducted in both the Poultry Science and Biomass Labs at the University of Arkansas.

Food science is the application of science and technology to produce safe, nutritious and appealing food products from agricultural commodities. The mission of the Department of Food Science is to be the primary source of food science higher education, research and public service for the state of Arkansas. The department has research programs that are recognized for excellence at the regional, national and international levels, while also contributing to advancing the quality of life and professional development of Arkansans.

Description:
A candidate is sought to provide technical assistance for research projects in the general area of Food Science with responsibilities focused primarily on Food Safety. The candidate is expected to help in experimental design and participate with an interdisciplinary team already in place. In addition, the candidate will provide written and oral updates on lab activities on a regular basis and may prepare research results for publication and/or presentation. Responsibilities also include regulatory, personnel, technical and financial activities of the laboratory.

Minimum Requirements:
B.S. degree in Food Science or closely related fields (e.g Biology or Microbiology) and five years laboratory experience. Strong organizational skills and a general working knowledge of microbiology are essential. Must have demonstrated ability to conduct research following established protocols, conduct analytical tests, statistically analyze and interpret results of trials, and assist in preparation of manuscripts for scientific journals. The applicant must be willing to travel, work in the field and laboratory, as well as learn new skills as required by the research. Good communication skills, both oral and written, are mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:
Supervisory and instructional experience; experience working with Campylobacter and Salmonella; knowledge of mass spectrometry and stable isotopes, and its applications for the study of Food Science.
