Komura: China admits 4 poisoned by gyoza

Four people in China contracted food poisoning from Chinese-made frozen gyoza in July, Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura revealed Sunday in an NHK news program.

During the program, Komura said he had received a report from the Chinese authorities in early July about a food-poisoning case in China that cited the number of victims.

Chinese authorities earlier had admitted that there were cases of food poisoning in China in mid-June caused by Chinese-made gyoza earlier. These cases are similar to those that occurred in Japan earlier this year. The number of victims in the Chinese cases had not been revealed, however.

Komura said, "I think the upper echelon of the Chinese government made a clear indication that they had no intention of clouding the issue."
