JOHOR BARU: The SK Taman Daya 2 canteen has been closed following the recent food poisoning incident involving 43 students here.

Johor Health department director Dr Mohd Khairi Yakub said that the canteen was ordered to close on Sunday after failing a cleanliness check.

"Department officers inspected the canteen and it has failed to meet the minimum standards.

"They have two weeks to clean up before we visit them again for another check," he said Monday when contacted here.

He added that his department was still investigating whether poor cleanliness was the cause for the food poisoning.

"We are waiting for test results of the food samples we took from the canteen," he said.

On Saturday, the students suffered abdominal pains and vomiting after they were believed to have eaten chicken nuggets at the school's canteen.

They were rushed to the Sultan Ismail Hospital and received outpatient treatment.

The students were in school attending their replacement classes when the incident occurred.
