JOB
DESCRIPTION:
KEY
RESULT AREAS:
The
Food Technologist is responsible for developing New Food Products from
concept to commercialization in support of company growth objectives with
the snack nut categories. She/He serves as the technical expert for
projects including product improvements, quality improvements, customer
requests, cost savings initiatives, technology development, and in the
efficient utilization of the manufacturing network. The primary
responsibility will be to apply food science and human nutrition education
and skills through innovation and project leadership, in support of the
various projects assigned.
PRINCIPAL
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Apply
Food Science and Human Nutrition education and skills to assigned work. Plan,
execute, evaluate and report on the technical aspects of the product
development/improvement projects as assigned. Act as the technical expert
for assigned maintenance products. Complete and maintain emulation
assessments for current products. Assist more experienced Food
Technologists on portions of projects for training purposes, and to ensure
completion of the department’s high priority projects and technical work
assignments. Design, coordinate and execute plant trials. Effectively
document details of experiments: objectives, formulas, processing
conditions, required equipment and equipment setup, results and next steps.
Develop Specifications, Formulas, and Nutrition labeling. Manage projects
with some supervision. Question processes and procedures. Suggest and test
alternatives. Interact professionally and effectively with the R&D team
to ensure completion of department objectives. Develop a Food Industry
network of contacts in support of career development initiatives.
Proficiently utilize Research and Development software such as the Project
Plans Database, Formulation Software and Statistics Software. A flexible
schedule is required to support testing including travel. Occasionally
plant trials must be conducted during off shifts and weekends. Any and all
other duties as assigned.
Food
Safety Production Areas
Notify
Supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required. Understand,
observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded
container policy while in the Production Areas. Perform all duties
necessary to meet American Institute of Baking (AIB), SQF, Company, and /or
Government requirements and standards as prioritized by the Company. Inform
Management of ANY Food Safety or Quality issues or of any processes, which
become noncompliant with specified requirements. Ability to initiate action
to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and
the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of
the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system. Controls
further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food
Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition
has been corrected. Inform Management of ANY Food Safety or Quality issues
or of any processes, which become noncompliant with specified requirements.
In the absence of immediate supervisor, will assume necessary operational
and administrative duties.

Education:
B.S. Degree in
Food Science (IFT Minimum Standards) or equivalent.
Experience:
Minimum of 2
to 5 years experience in snack nut food product development.
