Essential Job Duties

The Quality Assurance & Food Safety Manager is responsible and accountable for the development, implementation and maintenance of quality assurance and food safety programs that meet and exceed Rubio’s Restaurants quality standards. This is a full-time position located at in Carlsbad, CA.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining product specifications, quality assurance plans and key performance indicators
  • Responsible for investigating and following up on quality issues and alleged foodborne illness concerns received on the internal or external hot lines
  • Responsible for coordinating & auditing the internal HACCP program
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining suppliers’ quality issues database as well as local health department regulation database
  • Responsible for coordinating product evaluations on new and existing ingredients to insure adherence to specifications
  • Responsible for coordinating and following up on 3rd party food safety audits (restaurants and suppliers)
  • Responsible for managing our restaurants’ pest control program
  • Responsible for evaluating and resolving quality assurance & food safety related concerns from the restaurants
  • Responsible for creating reports by compiling, analyzing, and recording TQM data

Non Essential Job Duties

  • Incidental duties as required




Job Qualifications

Education: Bachelor Degree in Food Science or similar discipline

Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in Quality Assurance and Food Safety in food manufacturing and/or the Restaurant Industry

Knowledge: Quality Assurance and Food Safety knowledge. Familiar with BRC, SQF, AIB, Silliker, Cook & Thurber, auditing guidelines. Knowledge of County Health Department regulations is a plus

Language Skills: Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills required. Bi-lingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Other Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)

Other Abilities: Ability to communicate with all team members and various levels of management. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to meet and exceed aggressive time lines.

Major Business/Professional Contacts: Routine contact with restaurants and suppliers. Required to report and follow-up on issues in order to resolve problems.

Working and Environmental Conditions: Typically functions in an office, restaurant and manufacturing environment

Physical Demands: May require standing for extended periods of time. Able to lift up to 50 lbs. Able to work in hot environments. Requires 25-35% travel, mostly to local restaurant locations and suppliers.
