WBC Assistant Quality Assurance Manager
Wawa Beverage Company is recruiting for an Assistant Quality Assurance Manager to be responsible for:
Manages the activities of the Laboratory Analysts to assure support is provided to dairy operations as necessary: 6-7 days per week, 24 hours per day. Coordinates work schedules accordingly. Evaluates team on their performance through interim and annual appraisals. Responsible for employee relation issues, coaching and development.
Implements, conducts, and monitors quality, microbial, and sensory testing of beverage and dairy ingredients, finish, and co-packed products. Reviews results and compares to product specification to ensure product wholesomeness, integrity and compliance to standards
Provides training to laboratory staff, including new hire training, update training, and/or new methodology for all test methods.
Prepares annual budget for internal laboratory expenses.
Reviews store and customer product complaints to determine trends of product quality or food safety issues. Conducts research and product testing to determine possible root causes. Contacts Production, Marketing and vendor to determine significance and take appropriate action required to resolve the issue. Assists QA Manager in implementing Recall or Removal from Sale and/or halt future distributions of the product until the issue is resolved.
Assists in providing QA leadership during new product development and pilot testing for brand ingredients and products. Assists in designing testing protocols for food products and ingredients including microbial, shelf life, challenge, and sensory.
Develops, reviews and approves ingredient and nutritional statement labels for compliance to the FDA and USDA labeling guidelines.
Designs, executes and maintains all regulatory records and procedures to ensure all the requirements of the Appendix N program for the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance are in compliance. Serves as primary liaison with the Laboratory Evaluation Officer for the state of PA. Conducts biennial laboratory inspection/evaluation process with the PA Dept. of Agriculture to assure certification is maintained. Implements appropriate corrective action as indicated by the inspection. Completes all required documentation.
Designs, executes and maintains all regulatory records for the biennial Interstate Milk Shippers plant check rating.
Administers the annual PA Dept. of Agriculture split sampling program for Appendix N testing, coordinating the testing and reporting of all Laboratory Analysts.
Develops and administers annual proficiency testing of all Laboratory Analysts in aspects of the WBC quality control program that include sensory, physical, and microbiological based testing.
Achieves and maintains certification from the PA Department of Agriculture as an approved Laboratory Director.
Organizes and designs lab procedures to ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Coordinates and acts as subject matter expert for the annual third party GLP audit. Identifies opportunities for improvement and validate adherence to the standard.
Assures appropriate inventory level of laboratory consumables for smooth operation of department.
Verifies proper calibration of all laboratory equipment as necessary to comply with Good Laboratory Practice.
Acts as primary administrator for laboratory information system (LIMS) and MyWawa GMP audit system. Partners with LIMS vendor and Wawa IT to investigate system issues, perform updates, and maintain security of the system. Acts as lead person for system expansion/improvement projects.
Verifies proper maintenance of laboratory equipment according to manufacturer recommendations. Diagnoses laboratory equipment malfunctions. Dismantles and repairs equipment as necessary.
Develops and maintains required laboratory records for SQF, and regulatory compliance programs. This includes, SQF related documents, product testing protocols, laboratory training documentation, laboratory SOP manual, and corrective actions to non-conforming test results.
Participates in audits of WBC facilities including regulatory, SQF, and third party customer audits. Assures appropriate and timely corrective action to any laboratory-related deficiencies identified during such audits.
What youll need to be successful:
Bachelors Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Food Science required
At least 5 years experience in a quality control laboratory in a dairy environment
3-5 years supervisory experience
Strong knowledge and demonstrated high level of proficiency in laboratory testing procedures, protocols, and techniques
Proven ability to solve complex problems and the ability to work with various department leads in a team environment
Strong analytic, judgment, organization, communication, interpersonal and time management skills
Ability to adapt to an environment of constant change
Project Management experience, with the ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines
Proficient in Excel, Access or other data based tools
Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekend work, multiple shifts, and some holidays
