Position Description:

Washtenaw Community College is looking for a Part time Instructor for the Fall 2012 semester. Utilizing approved / provided curriculum, the instructor will teach and evaluate coursework customized for staff who are caregivers in group home settings working with developmentally disabled adults. You must be able to teach the class on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 pm on the Washtenaw Community College Campus (beginning in October). Instructors are expected to arrive approximately 15 minutes before the class starts and will be evaluated for teaching effectiveness on a regular basis. This is a part time instructor within the Workforce Development Department.

The Workforce Development Department seeks to impact the business community by providing responsive, real time, and impactful training that contributes to the overall success and productivity of organizations we partner with. Please provide a cover letter highlighting your related professional experience working in Direct Service and / or Case Management as well as evidence of the ability to successfully train others in working effectively in residential community services.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain an interactive, experiential training environment conducive to participants learning;
• Demonstrate knowledge of implementing special diets; adequate nutrients with calorie needs; fats, carbohydrates, sodium and potassium; dysphagia; food textures and consistencies that pose potential swallowing challenges and safe positioning techniques for persons with dysphagia.

Related Duties:

• Attendance required for all scheduled trainings
• Abide by Washtenaw Community College’s work practice and rules of conduct

Minimum Qualifications:

• 2 years dietitian experience; ideally supporting individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities and / or individuals with mental illness
• Work experience related to assessment and treatment of individuals with eating and swallowing difficulties
• Proven knowledge of challenges faced by people with Developmental Disabilities
• Demonstrated ability to create interactive, collaborative learning environments with professional audiences
