CITY - More than 40 persons, mostly children, were hit by food poisoning
Sunday night in Cebu from eating what is suspected to be spoiled “puto
cheese” (rice cake with cheese). Doctors and nurses were seen frantically
treating the victims of food poisoning in the emergency ward of the Cebu City
Medical Center. Many of the children of Sitio Pangutana
in Barangay Apas were affected by the ailment. Bernadette Tolentin said he also are
“puto cheese” but was not affected. Her 2 children however suffered from food
poisoning. Tolentin said the “puto cheese” they ate
was already spoilt. She said it felt “too sticky”. Ada Gonzales, one of the vendors of the
“puto cheese” meanwhile admitted that the rice cake she sold were from the
unsold items left from the day before. She said however that these were
placed in a refrigerator and were steamed again before she sold it. Most of the victims were 20 years old and

chief, confirmed that the patients were suffering from food poisoning. She
siad the victims complained of stomach aches and were vomiting. From
