Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in food or nutrition related or
- Bachelors degree in statistics, social science or field related to evaluation of community activities
- Evidence of ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish
- Must have your own transportation to visit research sites basically in the Twin Cities (mileage reimbursed)
- Ability to work well with teams, problem-solve, be organized, and work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in food or nutrition related area or
- Masters degree in statistics, social science or field related to evaluation of community activities
- Experience with evaluation, public health outreach and/or teaching Latino populations.
- The successful applicant should have previous experience or possess skills including: 1) evaluating educational and training programs and their outcomes 2) demonstrated evidence of effective qualitative data analysis and reporting 3) understating the Latino culture and community 4) teaching and training minority groups 5) knowledgeable in environmental and public health 6) effective evaluation report writing skills


The position will involve coordination of data collection, research, analysis, and evaluation components of a food safety education grant and include the scheduling of on-site Twin Cities restaurant manager and food worker interviews in Spanish and English,
Conducting interviews and arranging for food safety training. The position will support the food safety outreach activities associated with this project. Major areas of responsibility include:

- Conducting on-site restaurant interviews with managers and food workers communicating in Spanish and English
- Coordinating related evaluation activities including organizing the research data
- Conducting data analysis; compiling data and writing reports
- Collecting manager and food worker demographic and evaluation data
- Scheduling and facilitating training sessions
- Coordinating and conducting focus groups, along with principal investigators
- Assisting in manuscript preparation
- Collaborating with other researchers and outreach personnel working on the project

Program/Unit Description

The mission of the Department is to conduct research, provide knowledge, and develop skills to improve food quality and it's contributions to health benefits. The integration of the nutrition and food science professionals in one Department provides exceptional opportunities to capitalize on the intersection of health systems and food production. The Department plays a unique and important role in meeting human needs by training professionals and providing service in the fields of food science and nutrition. Many faculty members in the Department are nationally and internationally recognized scholars in a wide range of food science and nutrition focused areas including food chemistry, food safety and microbiology, food flavor and sensory studies, food processing, nutrition and health/disease prevention, community-based nutrition, nutrition education and nutrition from a socio-cultural perspective.

The Department employs 25 tenure/tenure track faculty members and about 50 professional staff members. Current Food Science and Nutrition program enrollments include over 425 undergraduate majors and 100 masters and doctoral students.
