Description of
Work
This is a 12-month, non-tenure leading, post
doctoral research position in the department of Food Science and
Technology at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
Expected to develop and conduct applied research projects in food processing
and food engineering technologies including, but not limited to: membrane
filtration, dehydration, high pressure processing, dairy technology, and/or
functional foods, with emphasis on unit operations applied to human and
companion animal foods. The duration of the projects should be from two to
five years, depending upon the availability of funding. Sources of funding
may include the food industry, federal grants, or commodity boards. This
individual will work as part of The Food Processing Center Applied Research
and Engineering team, and is expected to engage in collaborative efforts to
both secure funding and develop research.
Preparation and publication of results in refereed scientific journals and
other appropriate outlets, as well as presentations at regional and national
scientific meetings, is expected. Assistance is expected with research
proposals to secure external funding to enhance the applied research program
in The Food Processing Center in coordination with the research conducted at
the Food Science and Technology Department.
Interaction with industry and the scientific community where appropriate, is
expected. Assistance in selected projects with Food Processing Center clients
based on the individual's background is expected. Will contribute to the
mentoring of graduate students and advising of undergraduate students working
on related topics. In addition, the Post doc is expected to contribute to
various existing and future Food Processing Center workshops, distance
education programs, online training, and other teaching endeavors in the Food
Science and Technology Department.
The position reports to the Director of The Food Processing Center and Head
of the Department of Food Science and Technology. In addition to the
above-described duties, the individual will be expected to accept committee
assignments, reporting responsibilities, and other special ad hoc assignments
as requested at the Administrative Unit, College/Division, Institute, and/or
University level.
Minimum
Qualifications
Requires an earned Ph.D. degree in Food Engineering, Food Science
and Technology, or closely related field.
