Job Description

Full time Direct Hire opportunity with an exciting Food Manufacturing Company in the Harrisburg, PA area. We are seeking local candidates with experience including procficiency in QC laboratory testing, managing testing results, auditing suppliers, training QA technicians, continous improvement and regulatory knowledge for Food Safety.    



Responsible for leading and executing projects for continuously improving current and future products and processes. Functions effectively as a cross functional project team member and technical expert. Supports Quality Assurance/Technical Services team via providing technical expertise to the Manufacturing floor, developing and implementing Quality systems, managing projects intended to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiencies, and contributing ongoing analytical and auditing insight. Takes a firm and confident stance to uphold Quality Standards, Mission and Philosophy. This position will operate under minimal supervision from a manager.


1. Manages multiple projects, potentially large in scope, utilizing project management and problem solving skills independently. Able to lay out a plan for completing major projects within overall timeline constraints with minimal input. Demonstrates project management skills, inclusive of roles for planning/coordinating and effective communication at all levels of the company. Leverages business and technical expertise/insight to troubleshoot, drive effective corrective actions, ensure proper preventative planning, and address conflict/resistance with the potential to interfere with project success.

2. Leads continuous improvement initiatives. Enlists/facilitates teams with other Technical Services members, Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Procurement to identify, analyze and execute quality and/or cost savings. Actively listens and seeks information from others. Demonstrates leadership behaviors. Personally contributes and takes responsibility for the accomplishment of tasks. Initiates, documents, communicates, and implements new systems, policies and/or procedures where required. Not limited by own functional expertise.

3. Stays current with applicable quality trends and quality related technology. Possesses and shares a full understanding of food technology and related quality assurance topics. Actively researches applicable software (statistical, lot tracking, etc), laboratory equipment, processing upgrades/modifications to enhance production and processes. Builds cooperative relationships with suppliers and industry peers.

4. Provides mentoring, guidance, and support to QA Technicians to ensure the delivery of accurate results, the correct use of laboratory SOPís, and proper conformance to GMP requirements, all performed within a safe manner.

5. Recognizes the communication and documentation needs for meeting follow-up/action items, projects, and/or incident review. Utilizes excellent written and verbal communication skills. Understands how information should be distributed amongst project ream. Prepares and issues, with supporting evidence, project recommendations, data/trend analyses, standard operating procedures, statistical summaries, etc.

6. Manages collaboration testing, supplier issues, and actively participate in studies/testing to qualify a new supplier when required. Provides statistical and advanced skill sets for analyzing data.

7. Provides a mastery understanding of requirements for regulatory compliance, food safety and security policies, Kosher and auditing. Independently conducts audits for raw material suppliers, co-packers, co-manufacturers, licensees, and warehousing locations. Provides off site representation during qualification of and/or annual review of suppliers.

8. Assumes necessary responsibilities for daily QA operations in the absence of QA Technician and full responsibilities for daily QA operations in the absence of the QA Supervisor.

9. Seeks opportunities for self-development and enhancement of skills by attending training and development sessions. Supports activities both internally and within the community in a manner that is consistent with corporate values and culture.


Job Requirements


1. Education/Experience: 5 yrs min. with a B.S. in Food Science or equivalent OR 8 yrs min. with an A.S. in Food Science or equivalent Science

2. Leadership & Management: Demonstrated skills and attributes for the following: management skills; leadership qualities; planning & execution; training, development & coaching; effective communication; project management utilizing problem solving skills; teamwork; and customer focus

3. Knowledge Level: Knowledge of food products, raw materials, and processing equipment; understanding of project management; mastery knowledge of auditing technique and food regulations; demonstrated communication skills both verbally and written; computer proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel

4. Equipment Operation: Laboratory, pilot plant and manufacturing equipment, general office equipment.
