Position Description

The Food Safety Supervisor assists the Food Safety Manager in the oversight and coordination of Food Safety and QA programs including but not limited to microbiological sampling, HACCP programs, in house & third party audits and compliance certifications. This position directly oversees Test & Hold technicians to ensure work is performed in compliance with Food Safety guidelines at all times. Frequent inter-organizational communication and contact with third-party testing lab required.
• Coordinates and monitors systematic sampling of incoming raw product and finished product using established standard operating procedures.
• Supervises sampling procedures to insure that collection methods are accurately followed.
• Acts as the central point of contact for third party testing lab, raw receiving department, production team and food safety management regarding the communication of approval to release raw product for processing and finished goods for shipment.
• Responsible for shift/work scheduling, training, delegation of duties & disciplinary actions of Test & Hold line staff.
• Keeps records of all sampling procedures and lab tests. Provides management with copies of test records and partners with administrative staff to ensure proper archival procedures are followed.
• Assists management with internal audits, document audits, vendor audits, USDA audits, FDA audits and third party audits such as BRC.
• Learns Food Safety Manager responsibilities and functions as back-up. Cross-trains in other department tasks to function as back-up to team members.
• Assists with implementation of corrective action initiatives ensuring food safety issues are resolved in a timely manner to minimize consumer risk, cost, and production down time.
• Tracks inventory of required equipment and submits requests for replenishment on an as-needed basis.

Position Requirements

•• Bachelor's Degree (four year college or university) in Food Science, Ag Science, or a related field.
• Experience and/or an understanding of food systems and food manufacturing processes required. This includes knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
• One to three years of supervisory experience desired.
• Knowledge of food safety requirements and regulations (Federal and State), Good Manufacturing Practices, and HACCP programs.
• Ability to work a 6 day work week with a varying daily schedule which may include PM and AM shifts, weekend and holiday hours.
• Ability to be “on call” as needed to respond to and resolve after hours issues.
• English language skills including the ability to read, follow instructions and write legibly required.
• Spanish language skills strongly preferred. Must be willing to acquire Spanish language skills as needed.
• Functional proficiency in MS Office Suite Programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and database software required.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills required.
• Strong sense of urgency. Detail oriented and able to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

Other Requirements
• HACCP Certification strongly desired.
• Ability to compile, analyze and present data in a summary to multi-level audiences.
• Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to get along with diverse personalities.
• Must demonstrate a tactful, mature, and professional demeanor.
• Positive attitude and desire to be a team player required.
