Position Details

Job Summary:

Under direction, assist the PI's and staff with the coordination and implementation of high profile federal grants for the Western Institute for Food Safety and Security (WIFSS). Work with staff members to coordinate the scheduling and implementation of food safety training courses which require identification and recommending to the PI's and FDA potential private enterprises for demonstrating field inspections and investigations, arranging and coordinating local meeting sites with the agencies; develop marketing strategies to solicit interested private and public groups for training activities; assist in the planning, review, assessment and critiquing of training material for presentation to federal and state inspectors and investigators associated with food safety and aggro-terrorism activities involving the food supply, and identify and recommend to PI's and agencies training partners and instructors who will assist in presenting programs. The agencies involved include the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) where by the information presented will be for new FDA Inspectors and Investigators and for first responders in local rural communities faced with aggro-terrorist or all-hazards contamination of the food supply that will impact broad sectors of the public. The later DHS program will become part of the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium in offering these courses across the U.S.

The position will also be involved in marketing modified educational/training programs for producers, private food industry companies and international health and agricultural agencies in Latin America, Asia and Europe. In addition, the WIFSS outreach program is part of the Food and Agriculture Protection Training Consortium (FAPTC) which involve nine other land grant universities and non-profit organizations with developing training courses for the internal use and export and import of foods for FDA. The position will assist in planning discussions for these training opportunities with agency and private enterprise.

Frequent travel throughout the U.S., including occasional overnight stay.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Training experience with course certification in government and industry, including the evaluation and assessment of learning capabilities of new employees of federal and state agencies.
Experience with Incident Command, National Incident Management, including the sectors and vulnerabilities with FEMA related program objectives.
Skills in understanding training needs of FDA, USDA and DHS as well as identifying new training opportunities; experience facilitating table top exercises, and knowledge of developing video training opportunities.
Experience in the area of food safety and security such as foodborne diseases, food systems and aggro-terrorism.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with leadership in dealing with federal and state agencies/personnel, participation in grant preparation, report writing and in organizing and implementing programs.
Communication skills with both lay and scientific communities, and understanding of agricultural systems that assists with field demonstrations and training exercises.
