Quality Assurance Supervisor - Food company – San Jose, CA

We have a great career opportunity for an experienced Food Quality professional with a local production company. 

  • Understand the production processes, advocate procedures and strategies to ensure that proper quality products are produced the first time.
  • Implement quality programs, systems, policies and procedures to ensure that production colleagues have the quality information needed to produce products that consistently meet each customer’s finished product quality expectations.
  • Ensure that the enterprise is always in compliance with all federal, state and customer regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Ensure that customer requests for product information are addressed promptly and accurately.
  • Direct internal and external audits of quality systems, programs, and manufacturing facilities.
  • Review new and existing customer specifications
  • Coordinate training, development, and performance review of seasonal quality control colleagues.
  • Review and certify daily quality control records for conformance to thermal process and finished product specifications.
  • Participate in QC, R & D, projects, product development, packaging revisions and outside events and meetings.
  • Design and improve laboratory methods, maintain records, and equipment.
  • Coordinate nutritional and pesticide tests of products.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the Pest Control program and assist in coordinating services with the pest control operator to optimize the program.
  • Provide sales and production colleagues with technical, safety/QA/QC/Food Defense assistance as requested.
  • Review customer complaints and provide timely feedback to Sales/Customer Service.
  • Identify resource requirements, e.g. operating budget for staff, equipment and supplies. 
  • Satisfy administrative requirements to accomplish responsibilities.

Required skills:

 

  • Proven experience with GMA – SAFE, AIB or comparable audits.
  • 5-7 years QA experience in food processing plant.
  • Bachelor of Science in Food Technology, Food Science or related field
  • Knowledge of fresh tomato and vegetable processing operations including canning and aseptic packaging
  • Knowledge of HACCP principles and procedures
  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong analytical skills
  • Computer literate in Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, and graphic programs and Internet applications
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills 
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed to achieve objectives without supervision
  • Ability to coordinate tasks with others through personal initiative.
  • Working knowledge of statistics.
  • Effective problem solver and efficient budget manager.
  • Proven experience with pertinent QC lab methods for testing chemical, physical, and microbiological properties of food.
  • Excellent organizing, writing, and English speaking skills; Spanish a plus.
