Food Safety & Quality Specialist Chicago, IL


Position Summary:

The professional will provide support to the Co-Manufacturing Quality & Food Safety team by assisting with project systems and databases to assure successful commercialization of projects. He/she will provide assistance with customer inquiries and investigate non-conformance product issues and consumer complaints through adequate communications with Co-Manufacturers and Suppliers. This position will also conduct on-site audits of suppliers & Co-mans. Position will be located in Chicago.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support commercialization of new products by reviewing required quality attribute information in both Specification Systems and Innovation Management Systems.
  • Assist in the prevention and resolution of product quality concerns by communication with Co-manufacturers and suppliers and maintenance of required supporting documentation.
  • Support long term quality improvement goals by detailed tracking and communication of Co-Manufacturing Quality Metrics.
  • Assure compliance to Co-Manufacturing & Supplier Expectations Manual by reviewing and tracking required food safety documentation.
  • Attend product quality cuttings to assist the with evaluation of products and improvement opportunities where necessary.
  • Conduct on-site supplier reviews to assure compliance with food safety and quality expectations.
  • Work with cross-functional team where necessary, to identify and implement potential process improvements.
  • Support overall needs of Quality Management Team to accomplish World Class Food Safety & Quality goals.
  • Bachelor Science Degree in Food Science or related field preferred
  • Must have 1-5 years in-plant quality & food safety experience in food processing; USDA and FDA preferred
  • Must have proficient computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Office applications, and be comfortable working in databases
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%
  • Knowledge of food safety principles and food processing
  • HACCP Certified preferred
  • Knowledge of SQF & BRC preferred
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with internal customers, external suppliers and co- manufacturers
